BOND STONE CLEANING TRANSFORMS ELEGANT STONE ENTRANCE WITH LTP

A series of LTP treatments have been used, by Adrian from Bond Stone Cleaning, to transform a Victorian entrance in Tunbridge. The renovation was completed with LTP deep cleaning and protection products, including LTP Blackspot & Algae RemoverFerrex Rust RemoverGrimex Intensive Cleaner and new Paving Patio & Masonry Sealer.

The Tunbridge project spanned a stepped entrance to a large period property, which has been converted into nine apartments. As a result of environmental factors, along with years of wear and tear, the area had become deeply soiled with organic residue, black spot and algae and rust stains. The build-up had been absorbed into the stone’s porosity on both the steps and chequered tile area; this created staining and discolouration and, during wet weather, a potential slip hazard.

To renovate the surface, Adrian first treated the area with two applications of LTP Blackspot & Algae Remover using a light pressure sprayer. The viscous treatment, which removes black spot, lichen, moss and stains, is applied neat and left to absorb for 2-4 hours before rinsing. It can be used on all types of external paving, including natural stone, concrete and porcelain. During the treatment, Adrian periodically re-applied the solution so that the stone remained wet, to ensure sufficient contact time. He removed the solution – between applications and afterwards – using a wet vac.

To remove rust stains, Adrian used LTP Ferrex – an intensive cleaner for rust outbreaks in ferrous hard stones. Natural stone often contains traces of Iron, which can oxidise when they come into contact with moisture. As a result, rust forms along with tell-tale brown staining. These marks can also occur if stone comes into contact with an acid-based cleaner which accelerates the oxidisation process. Ferrex is diluted with water, depending on the severity of staining. Adrian applied the dilute solution with a scrubbing brush and black emulsifying pad and then rinsed the surface.

Having removed all staining from the steps and entrance, Adrian cleaned the stone with LTP Grimex, using a dilute solution applied with a mop. After about half an hour, he rinsed the surface and allowed it to dry. To protect the stone, he then applied LTP’s new Paving Patio & Masonry Sealer generously with an applicator, to protect the grand entrance from future staining.
