Contaminants
Before sealing it is most important that tiles are scrupulously clean. The appearance of the tile and the effectiveness of the sealer may be impaired if the seal is contaminated in any way.

Spoiling
When using impregnating sealers, such as boiled linseed oil, excess sealant should not be allowed to harden on the surface of the tile. Such excesses produce an unsightly tacky mess which sets to a hard shiny varnish. Hardened sealant is normally extremely difficult to remove! Beware!

Hardening
All sealers take a few days to fully cure, oxidise or harden and will not be properly effective during this time. It is advisable not to walk on a newly sealed floor for at least twenty four hours and to keep traffic as light as possible for the first week.

Wear and tear
Sealers are ‘dressings’ and should not be regarded as impenetrable, everlasting barriers. As the seal wears, the floor becomes less resistant and more susceptible to staining. Floor protection is therefore best assisted by
routine maintenance with LTP products.

After-care
From time to time your sealed floor will need complete renovation. Signs to look out for are:-
a) The floor drying out and becoming absorbent again, indicating that the surface seal is wearing.
b) Loss of shine and general dullness of finish.
c) The floor beginning to stain and an accumulation of dirt and grime.

Delamination or chipping
A certain amount of delamination or chipping may be expected from hard floors during or following installation. Where delamination or chipping occurs after installation affected areas should always be re-sealed.
